Freddy Joe Lathers, 89, of South Haven, KS passed away on March 12, 2024 at the Kansas Veterans Home of Winfield.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, please dress casually. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice and the South Haven Fair Association. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Freddy was born on April 30, 1934 in Carnegie, OK to parents Fred and Birdell (Horn) Lathers. He received a track scholarship to Cowley College, but while there decided to join the Army and serve his country. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Freddy worked on a farm and then for the Santa Fe Railroad for over 40 years. On May 30, 1958 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Gail Utt in Miami, OK. Freddy enjoyed coyote hunting with his greyhounds, bird hunting, fishing, and dancing with his wife. He was a member of the VFW, NRA and South Haven Fair Board.
Freddy is survived by his wife Gail; children Wes Lathers (Brenda), and Shelby Anderson (Jay); grandchildren: Luke Brownlee (Kristian), Bayley Anderson, Wacey Lathers (Alyssa), Kayley Lathers; great-grandchildren: Kolbie, Cooper, Bow, Ben, and Luka Brownlee; siblings Ted Lathers and Dixie Mowbray.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Lathers, and granddaughter Colby Webb.
