Donald “Don” Benjamin Horner, 89, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Private family services will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 1254, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Don was born on June 25, 1934, in Colfax, NM to parents Benjamin and Mary (Hammond) Horner. He joined the Navy and served from 51-59 during the Korean War. While in the Navy he was a Golden Glove Champion boxer and fought at Madison Square Garden. In 1960 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Nell Miller. Don was an iron worker and was a proud member of the Iron Workers Union 416 in California, he was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. Don enjoyed fishing, reading history and detective novels, solving crosswords, and going on drives with his wife, most of all he loved his family.
Don is revived by his wife Nell, children Larry Horner (Rachel), David Horner (Donna), Donna Batchelor (Marty), JoAnn Merrill and Denise Merrill, grandsons: Kenny Horner, Brian Horner (Deidree), Michael Horner, Ryan Horner (Julianne), Nathan Horner (Kelsey), Isaac Batchelor (Kaitlyn), granddaughters: Donell Rose Horner, and Briyana Cornejo, great-grandchildren: Skylar Horner, Chris Horner, Evan Horner, Mason Hamm, Aria Horner, Cody Horner, Owen Horner, Finn Horner, Brantley Batchelor, Owen Hobbs, Aiden Hobbs, Gabriel Batchelor, Jameson Batchelor and Haiyzli Daily.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Juanita Mutz, and brother David Lee “JD” Horner.
